Minecraft Enchantment Language — Standard Galactic Alphabet Translator

The Standard Galactic Alphabet (SGA) is the mysterious script that appears on Minecraft's enchanting table. Originally created for Commander Keen (1990) by id Software, it was adopted by Markus "Notch" Persson as a tribute. Each of the 26 English letters maps to a unique SGA symbol — a true substitution cipher you can actually read and write.

This free Minecraft enchantment language keyboard lets you translate any English text into SGA symbols. Enable SGA Mode to auto-convert as you type, or click individual SGA glyphs on the keyboard. Copy the result and paste into Discord usernames, TikTok bios, Instagram, Minecraft signs, or anywhere you want to add that enchanting mystery.

How to type in the Minecraft enchantment language

Type your message in the text box — with SGA Mode ON, each letter converts to its SGA equivalent as you type space. Or use the on-screen SGA keyboard to click individual glyphs. The full A–Z alphabet is in the ✦ SGA panel. Copy and paste anywhere.

Minecraft Enchantment Language — FAQ

The Minecraft enchantment language uses the Standard Galactic Alphabet (SGA) — a fictional script from the 1990 Commander Keen games. Each of the 26 English letters maps to a unique SGA symbol. Minecraft adopted it for the enchanting table interface as a tribute to Commander Keen.
Type your English text in the box above and enable SGA Mode — your text auto-converts as you type. Or click individual SGA keys on the on-screen keyboard. Then tap Copy and paste anywhere you want.
Yes! SGA symbols are Unicode characters that work on any platform. Copy them and paste into your Discord username, TikTok bio, Instagram bio, or any text field. They display correctly on all modern devices.
The scrolling text in Minecraft's enchanting table looks random but uses real SGA glyphs scrambled for visual effect. The actual enchantment names are garbled versions of real enchantment names written in SGA.
Type your message, click Copy, then paste into a Minecraft sign or book. With SGA texture packs, text renders as true enchantment glyphs. In vanilla Minecraft, the copied Unicode symbols still display as unique exotic characters.
Tom Hall and id Software created the SGA for Commander Keen in 1990. Markus 'Notch' Persson — Minecraft's creator — was a fan and included the SGA in Minecraft's enchanting system as a direct tribute to that game.
